Signs on red route removed

Wednesday 17th September 2008, 11:16AM BST.

All 200 red route signs have now been removed from Stafford Road, Wolverhampton, as part of the £150,000 scrapping of the no-stopping system.

The signs will now be sold off as scrap.

Three months of work to scrap the £2.4 million red route started on Monday.

Once complete, the A449 will revert to its old rules – a mixture of single and double yellow lines. The red lines are being repainted yellow.

Cabinet member Councillor Paddy Bradley said today: “Work is going well. It’s now a dead issue and we’ve just got to finish painting the yellow lines back but that will be done as soon as possible.

“We are also looking at other ways of traffic calming and getting people through.

“One will be creating a car-sharing lane, meaning the lane nearest the pavement will be only buses and people sharing cars.”
