Runners from across the West Midlands joined in a 10K race around Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire.

Moor than 160 runners took part in the Goodrich 10K event, 30 more than the previous year.

They gathered at the aerospace and defence giant’s factory, on Stafford Road, Fordhouses, for the 10am start yesterday at the beginning of a route which took them up the Stafford Road, into Coven, down the Stafford Road and back to the start.

Workers at the factory took time out to watch the run get underway.

The event used to be managed by Goodrich’s predecessor Lucas Aerospace, but the event fell by the wayside and Wolverhampton & Bilston Athletics Club took control.

Club chairman Colin Thompson said: “The weather has been good to us and we want it to grow each year.

“It’s a good, fun event.”

A few minutes after the main event started, 28 youngsters and parents participated in their own mini fun-run, almost three times as many as the previous year.

Mr Thompson said: “It’s really about encouraging children to start running. They are the future members of the club.

“I’m really pleased and everybody’s really enjoyed it.”
