Red route lines axed

Monday 15th September 2008, 10:27AM BST.

Double red lines along Wolverhampton’s Stafford Road were being removed today as part of weeks of work to consign the controversial no-stopping system to the past.

Council workers are also taking down around 200 signs along seven miles of the A449 dual carriageway, starting from tomorrow.

The signs are set to be sold as scrap to help claw back the estimated £150,000 cost to taxpayers of scrapping the red route, which has cost £2.4 million since its launch in March last year.
