Iversen back for final fixture
Monday 15th September 2008, 6:42AM BST.
Niels Kristian Iversen is expected to return to Wolves colours as they take on Ipswich in their final home Elite League match of 2008 at Monmore Green.
Iversen has been out since dislocating a shoulder in a crash at Belle Vue on August 27, but he made his comeback on Saturday in the Italian Grand Prix at Lonigo, scoring four points.
The GP was not a happy event for skipper Fredrik Lindgren – who celebrates his 23rd birthday today – as he failed to score in five rides in a meeting won by America’s Greg Hancock.
Iversen then moved on to Zielona Gora in Poland for the GP Challenge, hoping to win a place in the 2009 Grand Prix series, but he missed out by a single point after scoring 11.
Fellow Wolf Jesper B Monberg also competed and was eliminated from the World Championship after scoring ten.
Peterborough’s Kenneth Bjerre and Poles Grzegorz Walasek and Sebastian Ulamek won the three available places in next year’s GP series, after all three finished on 12 points.
He sees new signings Morten Risager and Ludvig Lindgren make their home debuts for the side, as Wolves continue their fight to avoid the relegation play-offs.
Tonight is the first time the side have appeared at Monmore Green since August Bank Holiday Monday, with the initial staging of the Ipswich fixture rained off and Wolves visiting Belle Vue last Monday where they were beaten 48-42.
Ipswich will be without German star Tobi Kroner after he suffered a broken finger in a crash in the opening heat of their defeat to Lakeside last Thursday.
Polish star Piotr Swiderski and former Coventry man Rory Schlein will head the Witches into battle at a venue they often enjoy, while former Wolf Steve Johnston lines up at reserve.
Tapes go up at Monmore Green at 7.30pm.
Wolves: Fredrik Lindgren, Morten Risager, Niels Kristian Iversen, David Howe, Jesper B Monberg, Nicolai Klindt, Ludvig Lindgren.
Ipswich: Piotr Swiderski, Tobi Kroner (rider replacement), Jarek Hampel, Robert Miskowiak, Rory Schlein, Steve Johnston, Chris Schramm.
