Chris Brunt secured three points for Albion as his late strike won an action packed encounter with West Ham at the Hawthorns.

The Northern Ireland international grabbed a crucial breakaway goal with seven minutes to go, to earn the Baggies their first win back in the Premier League.

Brunt raced onto Paul Robinson’s pass and ignored appeals for offside, before slotting home past Robert Green to clinch a 3-2 victory.

The win was no more than Albion deserved but it appeared for most of the second half that they would have to make do with a point, after the team ended an incident packed first half locked together at 2-2.

A much changed Albion side made the perfect start to the afternoon, when they raced into the lead with less then two minutes on the clock.

James Morrison headed home a cross from record signing Borja Valero, despite the desperate attempts of Green to keep the ball out.

The visitors battled back strongly to turn the scoreline around. They equalised in the 28th minute, when young midfielder Mark Noble forced home a close range effort, after David Di Michele had headed down Calum Davenport’s cross.

Then the visitors went infront when Matthew Upson got his head onto a corner and Lucas Neill scored from the loose ball.

The lead lasted just two minutes, before Roman Bednar brought Albion level with a penalty. He scored from the spot after Leon Barnett was sent tumbling by Green.

Albion applied pressure for most of the second half but they struggled to force a breakthrough in the closing stages, when they raced away from a West Ham corner and gave Brunt the chance to become the match-winner.

Even then, Scott Carson had had to save well from Scott Parker in the closing moments. Albion had gained the upper hand and they were retaining possession neatly inside the West Ham half.

The breakthrough could have come when Greening produced a clever reverse pass to find Bednar in space on the edge of the West Ham area.

The big striker advanced to the edge of the area but be blasted his shot over the crossbar.

The Baggies continued to dominate possession and Morrison wasted a decent openin,  when he burst down the right and tricked his way past Davenport.

Baggies games should come with a health warning!

Superb attacking play (coupled with defending that leaves fans wondering just how many goals will be needed to win a game) eventually meant we ‘enjoyed’ a thrilling afternoon AND the three points.

Most encouraging? Jonas Olsoon. Composure on the ball, excellent distribution, and his height and heading ability will be a a massive bonus ESPECIALLY when it comes to facing teams such as Stoke City who rely heavily on Delaps exocet long throws.

(And was i glad to see them lose yesterday!)

Scott Carson is defying his detractors. Borja Valero possesses a great range of passing skills but needs time to develop his defensive qualities, Leon Barnett, quality defending as with Robbo’, but PLEASE Leon don’t try to playing one touch football in your own half!

That frightens the life out Baggies fans!

Overall verdict? A well deserved first win of the season. A cracking atmosphere which ensures the team will receive fantastic support.

Next up of course for we ‘older’ fans (!) are our deadliest rivals who go by the name of Aston Villa.

No doubt it will be an afternoon of genuine tension but hopes are high that we can extend our unbeaten run to threee games!!!???.

You can’t wait for the Villa to smash us? Got to admit pal, I wouldn’t wish that on you dogheads…I detest the Villa and their arrogant ‘think we’re top 4′ fans and so do most Albion AND Wolves fans!

Don’t worry dudleybaggie, their bubble will burst soon enough. Even Muppet/Magic Mick said they haven’t had a very hard start and as soon as they get a few injuries (which every team does) they’ll come unstuck. Once they’ve played a few of the stronger teams we’ll all see the dingles spewing their hatred towards the team as usual.

    13. Yes top of the fizzy pop league but can you stay there? You were favourites to go up last year and you finished 7th, you haven’t played a decent side yet so I wouldn’t shout your mouth off too much, you’ll soon be slipping down the league January when Hennessey goes to Arsenal!

Come back in 41 games and we’ll see where you are then!

    You’ll never beat the BAGGIES!

Great result from the Albion on saturday, good
goal from Chris Brunt but still dont rate him,
we look far better without him in the team.
I also think Robert Koren needs resting as he
seems to be running around like a headless chicken
Iam sure that Moore and Cech will come good
for us,you can tell that they are quality.
I already have my starting 11 for the Villa,
    carson,zuiverloon,barnett,meite,robinson,
    morrison,valero,greening,do-heon,bednar,miller.
