Grant will lean on Premier time

Wednesday 10th September 2008, 1:44PM BST.

peter-grant.jpegAlbion coach Peter Grant is hoping his Premier League experience can help the Baggies cope with the leap into the top flight.

First team coach Grant has backed friend and manager Tony Mowbray, along with assistant boss Mark Venus, to adapt quickly to life among the elite of English football.

Grant will also on hand to pass on advice, after spending more than two years with West Ham during their Premier League years.

He said: “It will be no problem for Tony because he is a level-headed man who understands the massive jump between the Championship and Premier League.

“Hopefully I can help with that, because he has never been there before as a manager and I have been there on the coal face on the coaching side recently.

“There has been a massive change in the Premier League even in the last four or five years.”

Grant believes Mowbray will be relieved by the end of the transfer window, with possible signings taking up lots of the manager’s time over recent months.

He said: “The biggest thing Tony has to manage is the transfer windows. In the Championship you can bring somebody in on loan any time and now we have to do it all at one time.

“A player who might have cost you £1million will cost you £6million, because you are a Premier League club.

“I’m sure Tony will be glad that the window is close so he can look at something else. I’m sure he will already be looking at December but he has got a bit of time to do it.

“We want to compete in the league and I think we can do more than that.

“We will work hard on the training pitch, to make sure we get the success that the club is striving for and Tony, the staff and the players want.

“I’m sure we can have a very good season.”

Blimey, Boggies falling out with Villa fans now. Strikes me you lot can’t play nice with anybody. I think you should hold on to the “…we played them off the park but they still beat us…” line. It’s about as good as it’s going to get.
