Woffinden heads U23′s at Monmore
Monday 8th September 2008, 6:45AM BST.
English golden boy Tai Woffinden is included in the U23 side for the eagerly-awaited clash with Australia at Wolverhampton tonight (7.30pm).
Woffinden, who rode for Team GB and was the only highlight in a poor World Cup campaign in July, is currently on loan to Rye House from Wolverhampton.
Many are expecting – and hoping – to see Woffinden in Parrys International Wolves colours next season. He is joined in the England side by another Wolves teenager, Joe Haines, who is on loan to Workington.
Coventry youngsters Ben Barker and Josh Auty are also included, along with Eastbourne duo Lewis Bridger and Edward Kennett and Swindon’s James Wright.
Swindon star Troy Batchelor leads the Australian challenge, along with Eastbourne star Cameron Woodward.
Redcar’s Ty Proctor, who has impressed for Elite League Peterborough in recent weeks, is also included for Craig Boyce’s side.
Wolverhampton owner Chris Van Straaten said: “We’re very proud to be staging this test match. There have been many memorable moments between the two nations and I’m sure this wil be no different.
“We have a very strong belief in the youngsters here at Wolverhampton and I personally can’t wait to see these guys in action.”
All children aged 15 and under will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by a paying adult. Season tickets are not valid.
England: James Wright, Tai Woffinden, Edward Kennett, Ben Barker, Lewis Bridger, Josh Auty, Joe Haines.
Australia: Troy Batchelor, Cory Gathercole, Cameron Woodward, Ty Proctor, Matt Wethers, Aaron Summers, Richard Sweetman.
