Carson waiting for England call

The Baggies’ summer signing has figured in just one squad under new England coach Fabio Capello.

But he believes his solid display and clean sheet for Albion in the goalless draw at Bolton last week proves he is heading back in the right direction.

“It’s always nice to be with England but I have got to earn the right to be there,” said Carson, who has not played for his country since his infamous mistake against Croatia at Wembley.

“I just have to keep doing what I do and hopefully that will get me back in.

“If you’re not playing first-team football you’re not going to have a chance.

“It was nice to get in the game because against Bolton it’s often not about saves, it’s more about dealing with long balls.

“So it was nice to make a save or two. You just have be alert and hopefully be ready when you need to be.”

Carson says he was delighted to get the nod over veteran Dean Kiely in the race to start the season between the sticks for the Baggies.

And he believes he can quickly recapture the form that led to his inclusion for the ill-fated Euro 2008 qualifier at Wembley.

“I was really pleased to be picked,” said Carson. “I didn’t want to come here and sit on the bench so I came here and worked hard and thankfully the manager gave me the nod.

“It is going to take a few games to bed on but I am reasonably happy with how it’s going.

“There was a bit of a lapse against Everton with Abdoulaye Meite but it will take a bit of time to get used to each other and apart from that incident it’s been good.

“That incident was just one of those things that happens in football.”

carson will get his chance soon, besides the way things are going there won’t be any english keepers left in the BIG league. i’m surprised we’ve not heard from any custardheads yet about carson today. maybe the dingles reserve team game at pelsall villa reserves is still on despite the weather. FOREVER ALBION

Had Villa & Pool not been at loggerheads, Carson would have joined Villa, though not with a 10 mil price tag, so the fact that Albion got him a whole lot cheaper I think was probably the best bit of business you have done for years.
I watched him all last season and could see that there is a great goalie inside just waiting to get out, when it does, he will be an England regular.
I dont think he deserved the boo boys treatment either, I have seen England goalkeepers make bigger gaffs than that and they didnt suffer such treatment.
More importantly for you baggies, he’s good for 10 or 15 points when the chips are down.

Well said John Aston. A Comment to balance the ‘son-of-a-silly-person Villa-villa’ nonsense posted on here.

    4 John Aston.
As the only real Villa fan posting on here, my apologies for having a mild pop at you previously. Good to see an honest assessment, as some fans tend to automatically put down their ex-players (many of ours have with Curtis Davies, who may be a big head but he’s undoubtedly a very talented big head.)

I felt for Carson last year and wished Liverpool had a realistic quote for him when villa enquired and wish him all the best at WBA. Can people stop using the croatia match as the reason why he is remembered but look at the save from Rozenhal on his villa debut and the free kick against bolton last week. Good Keeper and hope Scott Carson, Joe Hart and Rob Green are in the next England squad for the goalkeepers. Any Thoughts on those 3 keepers share your view now

You’ll be in the England fold if you keep getting clean sheets for Tesco Town. Maybe if you try some long range shooting from your penalty area, you might even weigh in with a few goals, it could prove very valuable………

I would like to see Carson get his chance again but do not think this will happen. We are not fashionable enough for England, the same happend with Chris Kirkland a few seasons ago and got overlooked.
