Elokobi is ruled out for season
Friday 5th September 2008, 1:04PM BST.
Wolves left-back George Elokobi is facing up to being out of first team football until next pre-season – but has vowed to return a better player.
The 22-year-old has been told the soonest he will be back in contention will be next summer. Elokobi is set to undergo surgery on damaged ligaments in his left knee next Wednesday, but has already been given the gloomy prognosis by club medics.
Wolves’ head of the medical department Steve Kemp said: “George has damaged multiple ligaments in his knee.
“It’s been scanned and we know some parts are damaged and others are torn or strained.
“He’s having the operation next week and the important thing is to get rid of all the fluid in the joint to ensure the surgeon can produce the best results.
“We’ll know more after the surgery but George is out for the season and his target will be next pre-season.”
Elokobi is putting a brave face as he faces his absence, but has vowed to return stronger.
“It’s a really serious injury so I should take my time and I’m happy to do that as long as I’m going to come back playing as well as I was before, if not better, before the injury,” said the defender.
“I have no idea whether it’s career-threatening. All I know is I’ll be out for the rest of the season.”

Very saddening news from a players who really was starting to make a reputation for himself. Best of luck in your recovery George!

shame. feel really sorry for the guy. don’t know if he’ll be the same player if its another matt murray injury, sounds worse tho.
Good Luck George Hope everything goes ok for you.
terrible news for George & Wolves.. At least when he’s fit though, he’ll be playing Premiership Football. ;)
You can’t help but feel sorry for the chap; hopefully he’ll be back playing premier league football next season though
Report abuse
It is very fortunate that we signed 2 left backs then. People the other day were saying why all the left backs. MM does not class Gray or Jones as left backs anymore.
All the best George. His passing may go astray sometimes but you cannot fault his tackling, heading and commitment. A class act in the making IMO!

ALL THE BEST GEORGE PERHAPS THE TEAM WILL GIVE YOU A GET WELL PRESANT IN THE WAY OF A RETURN FROM YOUR INJURY PLAYING IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE.

Doo, Doo, Doo, George Elokobi.
Get Well soon
Report abuse
Good Luck big guy! No doubt you will comeback a stronger better player!
still young so his body will have time to repair itself. Hopefully he’ll come back stronger than before.
Get well soon George! Look on the bright side! You’ll be playing in the prem when you’re fit again!
Take your time and get back fit.
I’ve always rated George, and will miss him.
The replacements bought at the last minute of the window look useful, but let’s see how they play before we think that the problem is solved. And please no more Elliot at left back.
terrible news, but least the news (touch wood) wont effect us, with the two new left backs may make us more solid or more of attacking threat (i dont know not watched them to often) but they both sound good purchases
so very sad news but this sad news gives other players a turn to stake their claim as our regular left back
good luck george

George my Son had the same injury. Multiple ligament damage. That was three years ago it took him 8 months to regain full mobility. The remedial treatment is tough but with the expert care you will have you will be back raring to go next year. All the best for the op!
Why dont you spend some of your recovery time looking into the possibility of your becoming a naturalised Britton then we would have another England player on the books!
Up The Wolves

At 22 George has got time on his side,im sure he will come back as fit as ever, lets hope everything goes well,in the nicest possible way hope we don`t miss you too much!!! GOOD LUCK GEORGE.
All the best George, keep your spirits up and lets hope the recovery goes well…

Dreadful bad luck for the lad.
It looked so innocuous when it happened. I feared the worst when he lay there not daring to move. You don’t tend to roll around when it really feels serious.
I wish George all the best. I’m sure the determination that has taken him from the local park to the Wolves in so short a time will serve him well on his road to recovery.
Good luck lad!
Good luck George on a full recovery, no need to rush back now that we have adequate replacements.
See you soon hopefully stopping Ronaldo et al in their tracks!!
Good luck George in your recovery! Lets hope you will be joining the rest of the lads for pre-season training neact summer for our season back in the prem!!!!

Already a legend, best of luck with your recovery.

were gonna miss him!

Quote “It is very fortunate that we signed 2 left backs then. People the other day were saying why all the left backs….”
Errr……perhaps MM knew something we didn’t and took the necessary action…?
A shame but typical Wolves luck………….get well soon mate, you were shaping up to be a great player!!!
Good Luck George! Hard to believe how serious an injury he has got having seen the incident. It just proves that the worst ones are always the ones that look tame. Let’s hope our new left backs can do Big George proud.
My son had the same injury when he dislocated his knee playing rugby. It’s called the ‘terrible triad’ in the medical trade. He didn’t have the medical backup that George will get but, even so, the consultant has told him that he can play again and there is no reason why he should get the injury again just because it has happened before.
Keep your chin up and we all look forward to seeing you run out next season at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge when we’re back in the Premiership.
:-( good look George
Report abuse
Can’t help thinking that he will always have injuries problems now. Any player who suffer the dreaded knee ligament damage always seems to be prone to reoccurance of the same injury – often even in the other knee. I think its normally a sign of the player unfortunatly having a weakness in this area. I hope I’m wrong but I’d seriously doubt whether George will ever fulfil his undoubted potential.
Good luck George,
you really are one of the best!

All the best George and a speedy recoverey to you…

13 – No more Elliott at left back???? A) I don’t remember him playing there & B) Elliott has left so won’t be at left back at all!!!
Good Luck George!!!
Good luck with the recovery George.
You can tell we are playing well, if we weren’t I’m sure there would be people attempting to blame Tony Daley for this!!
C’mon the Wolves!
All the best son. I had the same injury 7 years ago and I’m still playing football now at the age of 39 so I am SURE that you can do it Big Fella! All the best!
All the best george, you really are loved by all us wolves fans! We know you put your all in every game and we look forward to seeing you again!
Many people berated George when he first came to Wolves (the usual doom merchants had a pop even before they had seen him perform) and some said that he was a poor player because a few passes went astray ! He has faults-yes, but no player is ever the perfect article! He has done really well for us and I am sure he will again when he has fully recovered. We must give all the players our full support and realise that they will make mistakes. We must still get behind both them and the whole Wolves set up, from top to bottom, to help maintain this new feelgood factor! It is the best way to ensure we give ourselves the best chance to have a successful season that will hopefully see our return to the big time and make Big George proud to be a Wolves Premiership player !
All the best George !!!!

Keep your head big bloke.
You are a star dont forget that.

I am writing to the lad and wishing him all the best, a breath of fresh air to this football club and against sheff weds when he crunched that winger and turned round and smiled and waved at the northbank a true lad living the dream, legend.
I fear the worst, that may be a career ending injury or certainly if he comes back he will likely not be as fast
what a shame, I wish him well
Report abuse
see you in the Prem George!!!

The next game you play will be in the Premiership.
Take your time and come back really fit.
Good luck
Report abuse
Good luck George.
Can’t wait to see you back in time for the prem
Report abuse
Ten years ago this would have meant his career taking an early bath. These days They’re unpleasant but usually fixable.
Good luck big George. looking forward to seeing you in the prem next season
Report abuse
Its very tough luck on the guy but I have to question still whether he’s good enough to take us to the next level. His distribution is very bad to put it midly.
Hard luck George, best wishes for a full recovery. Stay in touch with the lads at the club, be part of and share in the success. Prepare for the prem. The future for you and the rest of us is bright, the future’s Gold & black.

Gut Wrenching news… He will be very lucky to come back the same player…
he strikes me as the sort of player who will come back 100% but it does’nt look good…
Report abuse
Shocking way to start and end the season. All the very best my friend. If it’s any solace you will be playing Premiership football next season. Take your time over getting fit again. Don’t run before you can walk as the old saying goes. We will most certainly miss your strength and speed but I am sure that the players bought in by MM will do us proud.
You’ve said it all; Best wishes for the best recovery possible, Big Man.
all you lot saying elo will be a prem player next season–if you had 4 games left and you were top then MAYBE -but 4 games into a 46 game season is beyond hopefull its damn right pathetic(is there something in the water down wolvo or what
Report abuse
get well soon big man…..
Very sad news. It has surprised me how little comment there has been about the shirt tugging that was going on while he was being chased just before he went over. It may not have caused the injury but it can’t have helped.
Little George has time and youth on his side to make a full recovery and if ever there was a player with the determination to do well for himself and his family it’s George.
What we need to do is to remember him a couple of months from now and then later on in the year when he won’t be part of the training setup etc., That’s when we need to be sending him get-well cards and letting him know the fans won’t be forgetting him,
I want to see him crunch a few premiership wingers and give us a smile and a wave. Keep going George – the big time will be back.
Best Wishes
David

You lost the point, nobody who watched MM’s selections last season would have been surprised to see Elliot drafted in to the left back position!
It’s all about square pegs and round holes, and it’s what we have been screaming about for the last season.
Play people in the in best positions! Sooner or later, Mick will revert to type and we will get more unexplainable selections, mark my word, he can’t help it!
For God’s sake get your acts together. We are 4 games into the season and so many morons think we are already promoted!
Get relaxed, the season will give us plenty of ups and downs.
We have had a great start, now lets try and keep growing it into a promotion season! Just get relaxed!
Good luck George, keep your spirits up.
We must have some jinx where every season at least one player has to be injured for a long period can’t remember when we started a season without a big injury to a first team player.
Oh well we got more then decent cover at left back so it wont be a major loss
Everyone keep calm and dont get carried away we aint promoted after 4 games lol, we got some big games comin up with Brum, Reading, Derby (if they get there act together), and the two other promoted sides should we a test too. With our form in the league atm it looks more likely that we shouldn’t struggle to get points of the lower/weeker sides in the league.
KEEP THE FAITH IN MM He’ll prove the doubters wrong come the end of the season…
Report abuse
Always sad to hear of a serious injury. Fortunately he’s young enough to come back. Good luck to the lad.

George is one of us, he will live the rest of his life with us.
George is Wolf through and through! I love those little wicked looks in our direction after he takes somebody out! Hey! I share those glorious moment with him!
Get fit again, then link up with your fans again!

Get well! George, perhaps the next season will see Wolves playing Premier league football.
If so, then it will be good to see you be a part of it.
