Wolverhampton’s own Steve Saville is deadly serious about making up for lost time in the ring – he is fighting on both boxing cards at the Civic Hall on September 12 and 26.

‘The Bomber’ first competes against Bristol’s Chris Long, in what will now be the main event, after Dean Harrison will be pulled from the show to compete for the English Light Welterweight title on Friday night in Nottingham.

There will be little time to rest, as Saville steps into the ring exactly two weeks later on another Civic show, alongside the likes of Coseley’s Jamie Ball and Stafford’s Rob Hunt.

Saville has only just returned to action after a five-and-a-half year absence. In two bouts back, he first beat the seasoned Baz Carey on June 20 in a compelling points win at the Civic, before vanquishing Mark Bett by stoppage in four rounds in Wigan on July 11.

At the top of the card already, Saville feels that good he is ready to take on two opponents in quick succession.

He said: “I want to show the people of Wolverhampton how determined I am to come back and succeed. That is why I am fighting twice this month. There is no time to waste.

“If I get my diet correct and my fitness levels to how I want them, there is no one that can beat me. I train the way that nobody can train. I feel fitter than I have ever been.”

For Saville, who turns 32 on September 29, the clock is ticking and the Wednesfield lad wants the best comeback of all – a British title. The closest he has ever came to a title was in April 2001, in a points defeat to Gavin Down for the Midlands belt.

Saville said: “Yes, I want a British title shot. I could retire happy after that. I had to have a goal at the end of it, otherwise there would have been no point in coming back.

“To bring a title back to the region would be a great honour. We have a great local scene. Myself and the current crop are going to make this the best time for West Midlands boxing ever.”
