Car-jackers target Audi

Thursday 4th September 2008, 4:18PM BST.

The 34-year-old was returning to her blue Audi S3 Quattro parked in Bakers Lane when the pair demanded she hand over the keys.

After dragging her away from the £25,000 vehicle, the pair sped from the small car park in between High Street and Little Aston Road at 3.45pm yesterday.

Det Sgt Rob Bastin, of Walsall CID, said it was thought the pair used a separate black Audi A3 for the robbery.

“The victim is clearly shaken up by this incident but otherwise unhurt,” he said. “It is believed that the offenders were also using a black Audi A3 and may have been parked up in or near the car park for a while before the incident.

“We would ask that anyone who was in the area of the car park around the time of the robbery, or anyone who saw the men parked in the black Audi, to contact us.”

The stolen car’s registration is BD57 VZX and the two crooks were described as black, aged between 20 and 23, and wearing hooded tops and jeans.

Police said both Audis were driven away but that the direction of travel was not known.

Vice-chairman of UK Neighbourhood Watch Trust and chairman of the Walsall branch, Peter Roberts said yesterday’s theft was highly unusual in the area.

“For something like this to happen in broad daylight is very worrying,” he said.

“We always try to impress on people to be very vigilant, especially with high-spec cars and especially with lone women. I think these toe-rags tend to steal these cars to order these days and of course they need the keys because they can’t steal them otherwise anymore.”

Anyone with information should call Walsall CID on 0845 1135000.
