Wolves 5 Forest 1 – verdict

Saturday 30th August 2008, 5:26PM BST.

forest.jpegWolves were rampant in attack as they recorded their biggest win under Mick McCarthy.

An attacking force to be reckoned with, they were 4-0 up by the break and completed a 5-1 slaughter of Forest, to continue their unbeaten League start to the season.

David Jones broke the deadlock with an excellent team goal in the 14th minute, his first for the club, before creating the second – an own goal from Forest defender Wes Morgan in the 27th minute.

The irresistible Michael Kightly lashed home to make it 3-0 two minutes before half-time and Chris Iwelumo’s fifth goal of the season made it four within a minute later.

A Richard Stearman own goal in the 54th minute was no more than a consolation for the sorry visitors.

Wolves did not take long in restoring their four goal cushion, with Kightly netting a fifth in the 62nd minute with a composed chipped finish.

The home side took their goal tally to 13 in four games – and nine in two home games. They could have had a hat full.

Kightly hit the bar, with Ebanks-Blake having an effort ruled out in an embarrassingly one-sided first half.

After the hour, the game predictably became more pedestrian. Wolves were able to give wingers Jarvis and Kightly, as well as Ebanks-Blake, a deserved early finish.

The win was Wolves’ biggest since they put six past Gillingham during their promotion season, more than five years ago,

The class of 2008 will be hoping it proves a similar omen.

Henry and Jones were great in midfield.
The attack is something else altogether now. Got to be the best front four in the championship.

Why has it taken Mick the Manager so long to find ‘the formula’ it was obvious from the start of last season we made a big booboo not replacing McIndoe at left wing and using a centre forward in that makeshift role.

Now finally we have Jarvis and Kightly raiding down both wings putting the chances on a plate for our strikers.

It shocks me how stupid Mick has been and how he is allowed to get away with it by Steve Morgan. then again Morgan was buying shares in his housebuilding company Redrow despite the credit crucnh and us heading into the biggest recession since the 1930′s.

Stephen Ward was very good at left back – If we didnt already know he plays as a striker, he didnt look out of place at left back – Well done credit where credits due – Nice one Stephen Ward!

Forest were lucky we didnt score 8 or more – best home performance so far!

With Shackell (centre half/ left back from Naaarwich) and Matt Hill (Left back from Preston) we should have all bases covered – Stephen Ward earned the left back berth against Forest – the lad deserves a run out next game – Cant play left wing, but gave a 10 out of 10 performance Saturday!

NB* To ALL Happy Clappers – MM made some bad mistakes last season and was rightfully lambasted by supporters and “loyal” paying fans for it! It doesnt make fans “boo boys” because they dont just sit there and accept a poor performance – MM has now put it right and stopped playing Keogh (when he came on had a very early chance but chose not to shoot with the goal infront of him?) – the lad looks good but isnt a clinical finisher (No signs of his promised 20 goals this season for the “real fans eh?”) and making S Ward play left wing/ midfield. So does that mean that we are boo boys -just because we say what we see???

Full marks to MM and the boys – great performances so far – but Happy Clappers get things into perspective – because people say what’s on their minds doesnt make them boo boys ffs

    UP THE WOLVES!!!

Was there on saturday, Collins was solid as a rock, in fact the whole team deserved man of the match; we won pretty much every ball, we had pace, enthusiasm, intelligence; and to those few idiots drawing negatives out of a huge positive by saying things like “doesn’t it just show how wrong McCarthy got it last season”.. When your squad is limited by injuries like we had last season you have no choice but to grind out results like we did.

Let’s just pray it doesn’t happen to us again this time.. Also, it takes alot of balls to play Stephen Ward at left back – he didnt look out of place and deserved credit for dealing with Forest’s attacks down the right so well. People need to remember that McCarthy made these signings, and his man management skills are shining through in the enthusiasm of the squad..and he’s doing it all whilst balancing the books, no doubt to allow us greater financial strength to stay up once we get promoted. The important thing to remember is that McCarthy is playing the long-term game, and it looks like its just starting to pay off. All I can say is thank God he’s made it this far, and maybe finally now the boo boys will see some sense and get behind the team, because this season really is boom or bust for the wanderers.

Oh and on a side note I saw stuart pearce at half time in the executive box, so expect a few U21 call ups soon..!
