Albion correspondent Steve Madeley brings you the video verdict on Albion’s goalless draw with Gary Megson’s Bolton.

Albion 0 Bolton 0

Albion are up and running in the Premier League after claiming a hard-fought point against former boss Gary Megson at Bolton.

There were chances for both sides, as a severe clash of styles made for an incident-filled encounter at the Reebok Stadium.

Neither team could find the breakthrough, despite several near misses and a point apiece was a fair enough result.

Yet it was the visitors who played all of the football, with Megson’s men predictably adopting a more direct approach.

It was Albion who went closest, when South Korean star Kim Do-Heon rattled the crossbar with 12 minutes to go.

The home side could also make a case for deserving three points, after having two penalty appeals turned down. They were also denied by a fine full length save from Scott Carson.

The first half was evenly matched, with the passing game of the Baggies causing problems for their hosts, while the muscle of Bolton forward Kevin Davies troubled Albion’s defenders.

The home side took no prisoners, with Leon Barnett in particular on the receiving end of some crunching challenges.

Albion went close to a goal-of-the-season contender, when new signing Borja Valero had a shot saved, after a brilliant series of one-touch passes from the visitors.

It was in the second half that the game really came to life, with Paul Robinson appearing to foul Mustapha Riga in the area, before Jonathan Greening appeared to handle in the box.

Referee Keith Stroud ruled that both offences took place just outside the area.

It was Albion who squandered the better chances with Ishmael Miller firing over the bar. Kim rattled the woodwork with 12 minutes to go, with the ball narrowly failing to bounce down over the goal-line.

Have been to the Bolton today, if miller keeps on missing chances like he did today and we don’t sign a stricker before the end of the month then we will be down before Christmas

Saw a little of the game on MOTD, seems good in parts.
They need to believe they can get results, it may come but when.
Overall do not forget its a step up.

Hope we see you there next season

Cheer up frank, thats 3 damn good performances but only one point and one goal (and that being a penalty!) to show for it, so i agree 100% we need a goalscorer but honestly, if we keep up this level of performance we’ll have little to worry about mate!

Don’t wish to critise Miller, who will get better over time i’m sure, but i just couldn’t see bednar missing those 2 chance could you? We have enough about us IMO to survive the prem, but signing a decent proven goalscorer (easier said than done!!) would completely erase any doubts about our ability to survive and would probably see us flourish over the rest of the campaign. Trouble is, finding a goalscorer ain’t easy (funnily enough everybody else seems to want one!)and you gotta break the bank really or take a calculated chance on someone with potential, which with Mcdonald, Moore & Miller, you could argue we have/are already done/doing.

Have to agree with comment no. 1. I was also at the Bolton game, and I have never seen such a poor performance from an albion striker. Miller is nothing but a lazy Carthorse, If the ball doesn’t get played to his feet he wont run he just meanders around the pitch with no sense of urgency. Thought Carson had a solid game, and surprisingly, the Bolton defence couldn’t cope with Macdonald when he came on. He has made a vast improvement from last season.

    4. 5. 6. Terry…..my friend, I take my hat off to you, you truly are a real football fan and you deserve everyones respect for that !! However, shouldn’t your major worry be about the steps down after the bar !!! Hope you had a safe journey home my friend !!

Its good to see Tony Mowbray has at last realised
that Chris Brunt is not good enough for the prem,
we looked a far much better team with KIM on the
left and MORRISON in the centre,if Mowbray starts
with 2 up front against Westham & the Villa then
we can get the 6 points.

I also think Kim Do-Heon is going to be the
next Zoltan Gera,he is more skillfull and alot
    stronger and scores better goals.
We may be bottom of the league at the moment
but I garantee that after the Westham and Villa
games the Albion will be mid table!
