Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Sylvan called up to England U21
Thursday 28th August 2008, 9:10AM BST.
Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has been named in the England U21 squad for the first time.
The Championship Golden Boot holder’s continued good form into the new campaign, with two goals in the first three games, has led to his inclusion for the European Championship qualifier with Portugal at Wembley a week on Friday.
Club teammate Michael Kightly is also involved and will be looking to win his fifth cap. Ebanks-Blake is one of two uncapped players called up, the other being Norwich’s on-loan Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand.
Although Ebanks-Blake is 22, all players born from 1986 are eligible for the qualification games and, should he feature, the striker will then be available for selection for the finals, should table-topping England qualify.
Kightly, also 22, is already eligible for the finals in Sweden having featured in the qualification campaign.

Not fully on fire this season but well done.

Fairplay Sylvan you deserve the call up! Quality player!!
Nice one SEB !!
Can we wrap you up in bubblewrap first….
He deserves a chance. Good luck to him.
He has the potential to get into the full England team in time.

Face it, the main squad have got no good strikers – Defoe? You’re havin’ a larf! Maybe we can have a future England star in the making.

I am glad we can comment on this story and congratulate SEB on his selection–Well done mate-
I notice E&S there appears to be no Blogg on our dismal display at Rotherham-What is going on if we travel to see our team then have the Captain trying to make excuses-
I have to say what is going on with the Cup competitions—-Are Wolves not interested in getting further on in the Competitions and why does our manager show contempt for them—Or has he not got the sense to see that using these games to develop his team is the way forward-All teams well the majority field what they think is the strongest 11-Why not us–We have in this competition over recent years been humiliated by the teams display–
Shame on you MM that appears to be a legacy you have entrenched–I am not against you has Manager but mate you need to shake your head from side to side and re-consider your position–If the team perform well Saturday then I suppose you will once again be the best thing since sliced bread–But I for one and partner will not be travelling to any more away CUP matches unless of course you change your concept and field a winning team–Hope the dream is still alive–Crazey Dave
The saving grace is that Sandwell also went out which will probably stop the pirates commenting on our exit.

Congratulations to SEB, he fully deserves it – look forward to the day in the not-too-distant future when the full England team is comprised mainly of Wolves players!!
Ok, well perhaps not, but it’s still nice to dream, isn’t it?

“not fully on fire this season”
he’s played 3 games, and scored 2 goals.
what the… are you on about???
Well Done SEB ! Deserved inclusion and will go far in improving him as a player !

look at english strikers…………………
sylvan has a guge chance to be a top star for his country if he doesnt wast every tiny chance they give him.
Hes class and nothing would give me more pride than to see a kightly cross knocked in by sylvan in an england shirt.
sounds far fetched but i honestly dont think we are to far away from this happening.

I think Jarvis will be next and if Stearman continues to develop he will be re-called. They have had some tosh in those squads before like Luke Moore so I dont see why we cant get other players in there. The future is bright and very, very GOLD!
Well done SEB.
Can we get Gerrard in now please?

WISH I HAD BET ON HIM WITH SKYBET TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP GOLDEN BOOT AT THE START OF THE SEASON WAS AT 16/1

13) As I said not fully on fire… he was poor at Plymouth – were you there?- and one of the goals was a penalty!
A quality player but so far this season Iwelumo has been the difference up front!
11) You will find that our captain slated Wolves performance the other night.

well done mate, show em what you are about now.
11, i wouldnt look into tuesday too much if i were you, how many changes did he make? yes, grant you, even a wolves reserve side should beat rotheram, but they were up for it and we werent, just look at other results and that will show you just how low the carling cup has become against the riches of the premier league and the campaign to get there. it is unfortunate but ask any one, carling cup or promotion? and i could safely tell you what 100% would answer!!!
Will do great I’m sure!

12 … Greg ….why shouldn’t we dream, I agree with you. Hey, once we could boast at least three players at any one time in the England team. Who knows what the future holds. Well done SEB!
The risk is that if he does well the bigger clubs will again come looking for him in January. Realistically he won’t get into the full England squad as a championship player, we’ll just have to hope we can convince him the club match his ambition.
I thourght he was French?

England’s Number 9…England’s England’s Number 9.
Flippin eck…that brings back memories.

Nige-Wolf–Yes mate agree -But do we travel for nothing next time I will walk to Stafford Rangers-Not that is a insult to Rangers- Yes mate promotion every time –You obviously have the dream–Keep it alive–Crazey Dave
Report abuse
Well done SEB
What next ?, a full Scotland cap for Collins ?
good for SEB
bad for wolverhampton wanderers.
him and kightly will probably get injured.
MICK GET ANTHONY gerrard in.

McCarthy you have done us again,,last season against Morcambe was the worst football ever,,this season you put the reserves out against Rotherham,,whats wrong with having a run in the Carling cup,and maybe playing some top sides…(20 NIGE)why do you have to ask the question Carling cup or promotion,,,whats wrong with both??? iff you ask me Carling cup or promotion I for one would answer Both…
Report abuse
nice one seb he will go far!! to the bloke who said he hasnt started well this season 3games 2goals :) get A gerrard now please.

30) You weren’t at Plymouth or the Stanley game either!
Iwelumo 3 starts 4 goals. Not knocking Sylvan but he will be playing better very soon. Against Accrington he looked like he was carrying a bit more weight. Probably not the case, as Tony Daley has meant to have got them back extra fit.

I bet hes packing his hand bags right now!!!
