Police hit silence on stab death
Thursday 28th August 2008, 4:29PM BST.
The man murdered on a night out on Wolverhampton city centre was stabbed four times in a targeted attack, detectives said today.
Officers say they have found no reason why anyone would want to kill 21-year-old Marlon Morris. Detectives also revealed that they were battling a wall of silence from late-night revellers who had seen who killed Mr Morris, from Pendeford. Today it emerged that Mr Morris had suffered wounds to his chest, heart, liver and back in a 3.30am attack on Sunday.
Friends of Mr Morris have told detectives how they were on a night out in the city centre when the tragedy happened.
Det Insp Wayne Jones, of the Major Investigation Unit, said: “From his friends, it was a very normal night out with no incidents. Sometimes things happen in pubs, such as somebody spilling a drink, but there was nothing like that.”
Mr Morris and a group of around five friends were believed to be in Broad Street buying food before they planned to head home.
He said: “One of his friends heard a commotion and turned round and saw that Marlon had been stabbed and that he was holding his chest.
“They then got him into a friend’s car and took him to hospital.
“I don’t think it’s a random attack. I’m positive that people at the scene have seen who has done this.”
Mr Morris died a short time later at the city’s New Cross Hospital. Broad Street, Queen Street and Lichfield Street were shut for several hours after the killing while police searched for clues.
• Anyone who was in the area at around the time of the attack should contact Bilston Street police on 0845 113 5000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
