Guns for the vulnerable
Wednesday 27th August 2008, 12:16AM BST.
I’m writing regarding the appalling rise in violent crime we have recently witnessed.
We need a new approach to the threat of violence facing many people in their day-to-day lives, as the current mentality of “let’s ban everything” is actually proving to be counter-productive.
It is unbelievable that so many people think introducing laws is the best way to protect us from those who don’t obey laws, yet they keep on trying this approach.
Albert Einstein said: “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” That’s exactly what many people out there are hoping for.
The current method is something that will never have the desired result.
It is madness to suggest that disarming the good, decent people is somehow the best way to protect them for the violent, law-breaking people who carry weapons anyway.
I believe the best solution is to allow the good people of this country to defend themselves using the best tools available – firearms.
Elderly, weak and disabled people currently have no way of protecting their god-given gift of life; this is completely unacceptable.
The more guns that are in good hands, the more crooks will realise that they don’t stand a chance. It’s only when criminals face a serious risk of injury or death that they start to think twice about committing crime.
The police can’t be everywhere at once, and banning things is ineffective, as you have to catch the criminal first before he can be punished.
I’ve started a website to campaign for our right to self-defence using guns to be restored (www.britainneedsguns.co.uk). This right has been denied to us for more than 80 years, and it’s time we got it back.
The site contains answers to the popular myths that the public believe about guns. Maybe it’s time for a new approach to this problem.
