Barry to stay reveals agent

barryhome.jpegVilla midfielder Gareth Barry will be staying with the club during this transfer window – according to his agent Alex Black.

In a statement released this afternoon, Alex Black finally put to bed speculation the England man may join Liverpool or Arsenal.

The England international has been a transfer target for Reds boss Rafa Benitez since the end of last season, but the two clubs have been unable to agree on a fee throughout the whole saga.

By announcing he will remain at the club until at least January, it brings to an end a summer of ongoing speculation.

But its still not cut and dried – Black added he will not enter into new contract talks with Villa until next summer.

Black’s statement read: “Gareth made the decision to stay two weeks ago and informed Aston Villa of his intentions. During this time discussions have taken place to decide the best way forward for all parties.“Any talks regarding potential new contracts at Villa will not take place until the end of the season. Gareth wants to concentrate on playing on the best of his ability for Villa, and we hope this draws a line under the matter.”

That’s right Terry. Perhaps he should sign for Hartlepool, they’re a big club are’nt they. If I was you I would be more worried about your own little club . Now you are having to play real premiership teams every week, you’re be lucky to beat Derby’s points total from last season. The only big club in the black country – Wolves – look a better side than you lot.

    Hey Terry,
Just read your apology on the other Barry feature, thank you for your humbleness. Interesting comment about how many season tickets you have sold….Mmmmm we get more fans in the Holte End than you lot have sold season tickets.
However I must agree about some of your old players, Ronnie Allen, Ray Barlow, Ray Sanders, Jeff Astle, & Bomber Brown, oh and lets not forget my personal friend the late Jimmy Dugdale or Cyrill Regis who both became better players at Villa than they ever were at the Baggies, but then of course they were the days when real fans went to watch football, a catagory that I fear that you do not fit into.

Wow Terry can even make the Villa fans bite hahaha!

John Aston: Regis became a better player when he was at Villa??? What are you on pal? He scored a over a goal every 3 games for us (most prolific time in his career) and about 1 in 5 for you, and he got most of his England with us and Coventry whereas he got none with you! And Dugdale…he won the FA Cup with us just like you but he also got his only England B caps with us!

Get your facts straight before you start talking about ‘real’ fans.

OK AJ I’ll give a little ground, Dugdale & Regis may have won more honours while at Albion, but they were definitely better and more mature players at Villa. Stats are ok but Regis played a lot more games for Albion than he did at Villa, so your 1 in 3 & 1 in 5 might need adjusting a little, oh and was I wrong with my comparison with the Holte End and season tickets…I think not.

So on your basis, the fact he got in the England squad when with us and not you means nothing? Care to elaborate on how they were better players at Villa considering they won more England caps with us, and Regis had a much better strike rate at the Albion? I don’t really see how a strike rate can be altered when Regis scored 82 in 237 for us and 12 in 52 for you…you can’t adjust that my friend, it’s a fact!

Not sure where you got your figures from AJ but mine are a little different from yours.
Regis played 241 league games for Albion scoring 91 goals an average of approx 0.3 per game.
He only played 42 league games for Villa scoring 12. an average of Approx 0.28 per game, so he didn’t miss by much did he.
Regarding his England career and the fact it means nothing are your words not mine, I never said it or implied it. Read my notes again, I said he was a better more mature player at Villa, you cant argue with an opinion.
Just one more thing AJ, I dont know how old you are or how long you have been watching the Baggies but I used to go and watch the Baggies in the 1950s, yes I am a Villa man but in those days when Villa were away and Albion were at home, I would go to the Hawthorns and from my home in Oldbury I would walk there and walk back, so I can talk about them with some affection. What I do not like are so called fans like Terry coming onto the Villa page and making childish remarks about a game or players he knows nothing of, yes he wound me up but it wont happen again.
Enjoyed the banter with ya AJ

Regis himself states that he played 297 (+5) and scored 112 for Albion and played 54 (+9) for Villa scoring 12.

I’ll stick with these figures seeing as they come from his mouth.

Nice to see a civilised fan commenting…unlike the dingle fans or the odd Villa one!

AJ, I cannot find those figures that you quote anywhere, although they all do not agree, none come anywhere near 297 + 5 scoring 112. The best figures I can find are, 237=82 goals and 241=81 goals, these of course are first Div & Prem games he played for Albion.
Anyway, if the man said it himself, then who am I to argue, one things for sure, I wish we’d got one as good as him now.
