Neighbours this afternoon paid tribute to a “chirpy” Wolverhampton man who was stabbed to death in the city centre.

Marlon Morris, aged 21, was attacked on Broad Street while the entertainment district was busy with late night revellers. He is believed to have been stabbed through the heart before being taken by a taxi to the city’s New Cross Hospital, where he died on Sunday morning.

Broad Street, Lichfield Street and Queen Street were sealed off for several hours while officers searched for clues.

Today a bouquet of flowers had been placed outside the family home on Middlefield, Pendeford, but there was no answer at the family home.

Neighbour Barbara Lenoir, a teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School in Wednesfield, said the murder had been a “big shock” to the area.

The 50-year-old said: “He was a very polite young man. He was very pleasant.

“They are a very nice family. His mother, Lorraine, is a lovely woman and everyone thinks very highly of her.

“It’s just been such a shock. You can’t believe it when it happens so close.”

Another neighbour, a mother who asked not to be named, said: “He was a nice lad, he had manners. He liked my girls and we liked him.

“We’re going to miss him and miss his chirpy face.”

Floral tributes had today been left at the scene, near Broad Street’s junction with Fryer Street.

One read: “Rest in peace Marlon. I will never forget you. Love you lots. Love Elisa and Kirsty.”

The fatal attack on Mr Morris, which happened at around 3.30am on Sunday, came on a weekend of violence in the West Midlands.

Dimitri Foskin, aged 24, was shot dead on the driveway of a house in Hockley Close, Newtown, Birmingham.
