Koren: We must focus on success
Tuesday 26th August 2008, 12:15PM BST.
Midfielder Robert Koren today challenged Albion to develop a ruthless streak to turn possession into Premier League points.
The Slovenian international, who made his Premier League debut against Everton on Saturday, was pleased with the Baggies’ display against the Toffees.
But Tony Mowbray’s men are still without a point after defeats to Arsenal and Everton and Koren admitted they must improve their focus to turn encouraging displays into wins.
“We played very well on Saturday but in the end the same thing happened and we lost again,” said Koren.
“We showed that we can cope with this level but we are really disappointed that we didn’t get points. We need to be more focused and concentrated on the next game and try to get points.
“We can see now that we have quality in our team but the main thing is to concentrate for 90 minutes because the Premier League is a different level and the opposition team will punish you if you make mistakes.
“We made two mistakes and they scored two goals against us so we need to be more concentrated in defence we need to threaten the opposition goal a little bit more.
“Hopefully in the future we will create more chances and score more goals.
“We have shown we can compete at this level and we have some quality but we need to be more concentrated because the opposition will punish you for any mistake you make.”
Koren believes Albion will learn the lessons from their defeats to Arsenal and Everton.
But he is bracing the Baggies for another tough test when they meet Gary Megson’s Bolton on Saturday.
“We have faced two good teams in the first two weeks but Bolton are a good team too and we need to be focused on every game.”
