Dominant Wolves were a class apart as they continued their unbeaten start with a 2-0 victory at Ipswich.

The only worry is another defensive injury after left-back George Elokobi was stretchered off in the 64th minute with what appeared to be an ankle injury – just a week after Jody Craddock broke his foot.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake rewarded a first half of overwhelming superiority by Mick McCarthy’s men when he glanced home a cross by Matt Jarvis on 21 minutes.

Then substitute David Edwards came off the bench to score for the second successive week when he stabbed home.

Earlier, the lively Michael Kightly had volleyed wide and Chris Iwelumo stung the finger tips of keeper Richard Wright with a fierce, angled drive.

Wolves continued to control the first half, with Kightly, Neil Collins, who replaced broken foot victim Craddock, and Iwelumo going close.

Ipswich’s only reply during a one sided first half was a dipping volley Jon Walters which just flew over.

The half-time introduction of Pablo Counago made life difficult for Wolves and it was the Spaniard who forced the only serious save from Wayne Hennessey. Defender Richard Stearman also blocked on the line from Tommy Miller.

Wolves were good value for their win. Stearman himself saw a header parried by Wright and cleared of the line by Richard Naylor.

On a day when Wolves target Danny Higginbotham started for Sunderland at Spurs, transfer-listed Darren Ward was given a chance.

Ward replaced Elokobi in the 64th minute to become Stearman’s third central defensive partner in two games, as Wolves’ need for fresh blood was underlined.

Despite their defensive worries, Wolves were able to keep their first clean sheet since the final game of last season and they again always looked a threat going forwards.

Ipswich were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute when Alex Bruce was sent off.

With my limited knowledge of injuries. I would say that fluid on the knee, and watching the way he stopped sharply yesterday and then went over on the knee, I would say it is a cruciate knee ligament. And we all know what that means. THE REST OF THE SEASON.

    I really hope not..

On a brighter note, I was there yesterday and several players really shone, but can I put a word in for captain fantastic, Henry. He was awesome. He was the engine room for this victory, a superb performance.

I don’t rate Darren Ward, and I wish that somebody had taken him of our payroll this summer.

I have to congratulate the team on a good win, the tractor boys at home is always a tough game.

There is now a winning team shaping, but that centre half position is still waiting for somebody special to claim it as their own!

I think that if we fail to make promotion this season it will be down to a weakness in the king-pin position. For that position we need experience and class.

See the difference that having two wingers makes?

It was always the same, big determined forwards in the middle and fast wingers to get the ball to them.

It’s always a winning formula, there just aren’t enough class wingers to go around! And we’ve got two of them!!

I went to the match and Wolves played some great football and thoroughly deserved their win. Ipswich fans agreed afterwards that we completely outplayed them. Revenge for the result of this fixture last season! We are looking a really good side this season, playing attractive football and scoring goals!! All you doubters out there – get down the Molineux and witness for yourself. Iwelumo and Jarvis terrific, as well as Kites, Blakey, etc.
Thought Stearman and Collins had very good games against Ipswich. Collins is gaining confidence and with the fans’ backing, instead of barracking, will improve considerably.
If we continue this form and style I cannot see many teams touching us………

We outplayed one of the better teams in the division and the more attacking style of play is leading to better entertainment and more points. Lets hope it continues. Stearman and Collins were excellent at the back but if Elokobi is out for a while it is a big loss. The midfield played well but they need to – Edwards was superb when he came on and must be pushing for a start.
