Edwards all out for Wolves
Saturday 23rd August 2008, 11:19AM BST.
Midfielder Dave Edwards is doing extra training sessions to force his way into the Wolves reckoning.
The Welsh international scored his first Molineux goal in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday after coming off the bench.
But Edwards has played just 11 league games since his £675,000 move from Luton in January through injury, along with the form of Karl Henry and now David Jones.
The 22-year-old is doing all he can to force boss Mick McCarthy’s hand.
He said: “It’s all about working my socks off in training and doing extra sessions to improve my game.
“Hopefully that means it will all come together when I do get a chance on the pitch. I know I’ll get a chance and it’s up to me to take it.
“It was nice to get the goal last weekend. I played against Accrington but other than that my chances have been limited so far.
“It was my first goal at Molineux which was nice – hopefully I can kick on now and get a few more.
“At Plymouth I wasn’t even on the bench and obviously you always want to be involved. I want to make sure my performance levels don’t drop, because I need to be at the top of my game for when the chance comes.”
Edwards admits not being a first choice is something he’s not used to.
He said: “Since I was 18, I’ve been pretty much first choice. It’s only three or four years ago that I was last fighting for a place when I was at Shrewsbury.”
“Since then I’ve been pretty much a regular even though there was competition .”

I really rate this lad. In my opinion he should start ahead of Jones, it was clear in the 10 mins Edwards was on, he broke from midfield and took the pressure off Henry.

Quality player, I’m really happy with the competition in CM. We have attackers, ball winners and players with good passing ability.
Olofin…Who??

Edwards is a very good player from what I’ve seen. But he rushes into tackles too often and could leave Henry exposed. Definately deserves to be on the bench. It should be Stephen Ward who doesn’t get in the squad. He’s given us nothing in well over a year. His last goal was against Ipswich in Feb 07!

good attitude, I think its a toss up between him and henry, he played ok for the wales team in the def mid role-and is a box to box player-always makes positive remarks to the press as well

1.
I agree Eddie, but even more importantly, is the competition for places. This just shows how vital it is.

Yeah I rate him too , but still need to see more of Jones before I decide, anyway I would give Davies a shot before either of them (if and when he’s fit)
