ambulance1.jpgA taxi passenger was killed as he stepped out of a cab near Stourbridge today. The victim, aged 22, was named as Tom on floral tributes laid by friends at the scene.

He was knocked down by a car driven by a 20-year-old woman moments after he was dropped off in Belbroughton Road, Clent at 12.05am.

He suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley.

Three friends of the man who has not yet been formally identified were laying tributes but were too upset to talk about the tragedy.

Among the flowers were a Thomas the Tank Engine train and a frisbee.

The accident happened on a country road near a row of homes about half a mile from Belbroughton village.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said he was awoken by blue lights flashing outside his window.

He said: “I did not know what was happening at first when I looked out of the window.

“All I could see was five police cars in the road and one of them parked right outside my house.

“I went outside to see if there was walking wounded that needed attention.”

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information can call Pc Davies on 08457 444888.
