Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has vowed to prove England coach Fabio Capello’s wrong – by repeating Sunday’s goalscoring exploits week in week out.

Agbonlahor is in Stuart Pearce’s England U21 squad for the friendly with Slovenia at Hull’s KC Stadium, rather than the senior party who take on Czech Republic.

He grabbed the headlines for his explosive seven-minute hat-trick in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Manchester City.

The 21-year-old admitted his omission had come as a disappointment, after being in named in Capello’s squad for the end-of-term friendlies with USA and Trinidad & Tobago.

He failed to appear, so is still waiting for his first senior cap.

He said: “It is obviously disappointing not to be selected as you want to be playing for your country.

“Mr Capello does come to Villa quite a lot and I am not going to give up. We have just got to keep doing the business for our club.

“That is all we can do but I want to play for my country. I’ve played for the U21′s and I want to be in the full squad.”

He was not the only Villa player to be snubbed, with Ashley Young also left out, leaving Gareth Barry as the only representative. Boss Martin O’Neill has tipped the pair as future regulars.

Agbonlahor added: “If Mr Capello doesn’t put you in the squad then we have to go out, like on Sunday, and prove him wrong. I think we (myself and Ashley Young) did that.”
