Charity bash called off at last minute

Tuesday 19th August 2008, 6:17PM BST.

wd2976572festival.jpgA charity music festival at Walsall Arboretum ended in chaos when organisers cancelled it at the last minute. Crowds had turned up for Archie’s Tribute Party.

The two-day event was due to feature top tribute acts to big-name stars including Robbie Williams, Meatloaf and the Scissor Sisters.

Tickets for the event cost £6 and organisers said money raised would be donated to the Walsall-based Acorns Children’s Hospice and the County Air Ambulance.

But now families who stumped up cash for their tickets say they have not been offered any money back and do not know whether a donation has been made to either charity.

Publicity for the event says the festival was organised through the Park Lane and Raynor Road Tenants and Residents Association in Wolverhampton.

But angry festival-goers who have tried to contact the organisers using a number displayed on tickets have been met by an answering machine or busy tone.

Tribute acts who had travelled from across the country to perform at the show were also furious that it had been scrapped.

A message to fans posted on the webpage of tribute artist Maetloaf apologises to fans.
