Named locally as John and June Jones, their friends in Walsall Wood said they led a “regimented life”.

Police were called at 9am on Saturday and had to break into their semi-detached home in Lichfield Road, close to the junction with Salters Road.

Mrs Jones was found on her bed and her husband was discovered on the stairs of the house.

Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem.

Neighbour Wayne Jones (no relation) said: “They kept themselves to themselves and led a very regimented life.” He added: “This is a tragedy and they will be sadly missed.”

An inquest is expected to open tomorrow.
