Southampton 1 Blues 2 – verdict

Saturday 16th August 2008, 5:33PM BST.

blues-small.jpegSupersub Kevin Phillips did it again as he climbed from the bench to fire the winner for the second game in a row at Southampton.

This was an impressive display by a Birmingham side, who have managed to banish their away day blues from last season’s disappointing campaign.

After falling behind in the first half to Chris Perry’s goal from an impressive Southampton side, they never lost heart and came out for the second half as a totally different team.

Birmingham showed their fire power with a goal from Garry O’Connor, before Kevin Phillips came on to win the game for the second consecutive Saturday.

If the Blues continue with this rich vein of form, you can see exactly why bookmakers made them early favourites for a return to the Premier League.
