Clarke won’t be fazed – Owls chief
Saturday 16th August 2008, 11:18AM BST.
Former Wolves striker Leon Clarke won’t be fazed by his return to Molineux.
That’s the view of Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws, who may pick the Molineux Academy graduate after injuries to Akpo Sodje and Marcus Tudgay.
Laws said: “It’s a massive game for Leon, as he’s playing against his hometown club. If anybody is going to be up for this game, it’s him.”
Wednesday became the first team to top the Championship with their 4-1 win over Burnley last Saturday but Laws is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
He said: “It’s only one game. We’ll look at the table again after 10 games and, if we’re still up there, then fantastic. The important thing is we have the monkey off our backs, as we lost the first six games last year.”
Owls defender Mark Beevers, who was linked with a summer switch to Wolves, is confident his side can repeat their opening day heroics and beat Wolves.
Despite going to Molineux as bookies’ underdogs, Beevers believes they can add Wolves’ scalp.
“I don’t see why we can’t go there and give the same performance as last week against Burnley. We got off to a flier beating them, which was always a winnable game.
“Wolves too is winnable. If we go with the same attitude we should come out on top.”
