Stearman: We are still learning

Richard Stearman admits Wolves’ back four are ‘still learning’ and need time to settle as they strive to rediscover their shutout form of last season.
Wolves go into Molineux’s Championship curtain-raiser having leaked four goals in their first two games.
Summer signing Stearman admits a lack of concentration could also have hampered Mick McCarthy’s side, as Wolves look to try to repeat their Championship-best 19 clean sheets last season.
Stearman said: “It’s something we’re looking to rectify. We’ve conceded a couple of sloppy goals, which we’re working on to try to get right for tomorrow.
“We don’t want to have to be scoring three goals to win. It would be great to get one goal and keep a clean sheet. With any new signings, you’re going to need time to settle in and that’s maybe the case.
“There’s maybe a slight lack of concentration from a couple of players at key times that have cost us goals.”
McCarthy kept four of the same back five against Accrington Stanley in the Carling Cup win in midweek.
Stearman said: “The gaffer wanted to keep the back five pretty much the same to try to establish a link between us. That will be good for us in the long run.
“We’re still learning and getting to know each other’s games. You can’t just expect it to click straight away. We’re restricting teams to one or two chances, but through our own errors, they’re scoring from them.
“It’s not the midfield or the strikers fault – it’s just that’s what’s happening.”
Wolverhampton-born Stearman is relishing his first Molineux league start as a Wolves player.
He said: “I’m buzzing to get going. I’ve heard a lot about the Wolves fans and I’ve experienced it myself coming to the games.
“I can’t wait to get out in front of a massive crowd to see what they’ve got for us.
“I feel I’ve settled in very well, but I’m only 20, so I’m on a bit of a learning curve.”
