Kooks always where they need to be
Friday 15th August 2008, 12:00AM BST.
Chart topping guitar band Kooks come to Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall on December 7.
The band, whose hits include Ooh La and She Moves in Her Own Way, will be touring new album Konk.
Named after the recording studio in Hornsey, north London, where the album was recorded, Konk has earned largely positive reviews.
The Guardian said: “Pritchard hits new high notes and rises to the challenge of the vibrant melodies and finely tuned choruses. With guitarist Hugh Harris coming out of the shadows, the Kooks’ ambitions look well within their reach.”
The US Entertainment Weekly said: “The Kooks manage to capture a bit of their idols’ effusive energy”
Observer Music Monthly said: “The follow-up adheres to a winning formula: this is sunny pop in a Sixties vein. But why don’t they try something reckless?”
But NME was critical, with its reviewer saying: “Konk is the sound of a band in disarray, unsuccessfully attempting to hold things together.”
The Wolverhampton date has sold out.
