Girl, 11, saves her mother’s life
Friday 15th August 2008, 1:37PM BST.
Tracey Anderson had been enjoying a day out with her daughter Lauren at Wolverhampton Civic Hall when she collapsed with chest pain.
The 44-year-old was suffering a major heart attack. But instead of panicking, Lauren, just 11-years-old, rushed to her mother’s help, calling the paramedics, carrying out first aid and organising a taxi for her dad. “All the doctors said if it wasn’t for Lauren’s quick-thinking and brave actions, I wouldn’t be here today,” said Mrs Anderson.
“She really did save my life. She’s a little star and I love her so much. I just want to thank her. The whole family are so proud of her.”
The pair had just watched the filming of Dickinson’s Real Deal on July 12 when Mrs Anderson collapsed on the way back to the car in Thornley Street.
She said: “When I woke up in the morning, my husband said I didn’t look well and should go back to bed to rest. But I had a few things to take to Dickinson’s Real Deal so me and Lauren headed into town. But on the way back to the car, I got shooting pains in my arm and collapsed.”
Brave Lauren, who will be starting at Deansfield High School this September, immediately called 999 from her mother’s mobile phone.
She said: “It was really really scary but I did what the lady told me on the end of the phone. I made sure my mum was still breathing and rolled her on to her side so she wouldn’t choke.”
The former East Park Junior pupil also flagged down passers-by to help and dashed across the road to a cab company to order a taxi for her dad Steven who cannot drive.
Mrs Anderson, of Astbury Close, East Park, was rushed to New Cross Hospital, where she took a turn for the worse and had to undergo 45 minutes of CPR before regaining consciousness.
“I was in the critical care unit for two days. Miraculously, after two days I went from being the worst on the ward to the best – everyone was amazed by my recovery,” she said.
Mrs Anderson, who also has a 21-year-old son called Jamie, is now recovering and has to go for regular blood tests and doctors appointments.
Mr Anderson, 44, works as a driver’s mate at Darlaston firm Trade Team, which bought Lauren a giant teddy bear for her bravery.
