Boss explains Balde stance

Friday 15th August 2008, 1:30PM BST.

balde.jpegWolves manager Mick McCarthy has been back in for Celtic defender Bobo Balde – but the deal is dead because of his wage demands.

Chief executive Jez Moxey shot down suggestions yesterday that Balde had been the subject of a £27,500 a week contract offer from Molineux, after reports in Scotland claimed Wolves had made their move.

McCarthy has made no secret of his desire to land the 32-year-old but at that price he will not be doing business – and that stance will not be changing.

He said: “There is nothing in that. We haven’t offered him that at all. I’ve made enquiries as to what could be done and what could be feasible. It isn’t at all.

“I asked the question on a number of occasions of the agent – whoever that might be, as it seems it’s different people – as to what might be required for a deal to be done.

“No, they can’t. I regarded it as dead about four weeks ago, but then someone phoned me again.

“I said ‘if it’s still the same again, it’s not going to move.’ I asked again and it’s still not going to move.”

“I’ve made enquiries as to what could be done and what could be feasible and it isn’t at all,” said the boss.
“I asked the question on a number of occasions of the agent as to what might be required.
“But the deal is not going to move’.”

I hope that even if this deal is dead there are other options for a central defender or even two.
We are lacking cover in this area both in case of injury and suspension, and need to strengthen.
Also MM have you had any more thoughts on putting up a lifesize championship table in the dressing room permanently and updated at half time and full time so every player and staff member knows what position we are fighting for?

big bobo is a fantastic player, just didnt fit in with gordon strachan. great servant for the club and with bobo in your team no one would ever win a header against the wolves again, and isnt it worth the money just to sing from the stands “BOBO’S GONNA GET YOU” as the opposition centre forward craps his pants when he sees a man mountain like bobo charging into the tackle against him.

P.S to the wolves fan that said that bobo played in a poor league, take it hes never heard of the champions league or did he forget that bobo also played in the uefa cup final with great player suck as henrik “king of kings” larsson

slow, was never one of his problems, it was just the forwards ran away from him that fast due to the fact that they were slightly bricking their pants at the thought of a tackle from the big man

Just go out and sign Ledley. end of. At least we would have a goal scoring creative midfielder. Which is what we need.

    Then get a decent defender

at least we are rich enough to be sucked dry, cant even afford one of our reserve players wages – real shame that in a mickey mouse league a team like celtic can get 60000 fan every week to watch us and poor wolves get about 3 men and a dog each week – but then you really dont have any pedigree unlike aston villa and birmingham city

    10. There’s a good idea….get them to pay more than half his wages, bu the problem is they might only do that for a year. then if we fail to get promoted we’d be lumbered with a player making excessive wage demands in a division that can’t afford him and a club that can’t either.
The rebuilding is almost complete, it would be better to go with young and hungry rather than old cynical and greedy.
Keep an eye on Ibhere at walsall as well as Gerrard! i sense he’s gonna bag some goals this season.

You’re at the top of your top division and we’re in the middle of our countries second tier and we still get half as many spectators as you do. Reverse the positions could you say the same then? I doubt it. And same pedigree as only ever won the league cup once Blues? Don’t make me laugh!

    Freddy in Scotland

As a Celtic AND Wolves fanatic (I worked as a reporter on the Express and Star in the late 1960s when Wolves had something resembling a good team that included four Scotsmen) I have to say that the Scots do NOT play in a Mickey Mouse league. Far from it. There is abundant talent up here, but the lack of fan base and consequent shortage of hard cash means that every team in the Premier League (excepting Celtic and Rangers of course) simply cannot afford to splash out millions on big buys.
Just look at the number of top Scots who are presently playing and managing south of the border. Are you saying that Sir Alex Ferguson is another Mickey Mouse? I think not!!!

good to see the wolves fans bite from the hook like most footy fans when it comes to their team, i was only at the wind up lads – hope you lads do well with an ex celt as your manager, but we all love a wind up dont we? i had to come on to your forum because its just not any fun anymore with the rangers fans just now, poor buggers kicked out of europe by a pub team , real shame that….

He was rubbish for us in the Prem, rubbish for Derby – Celtic signing him is surely an admission of just how bad the SPL really is.
