Fire sparked by a tealight

Thursday 14th August 2008, 11:43AM BST.

wd2969836iridum-dw-13.jpgA fire broke out at a Wolverhampton beauty salon after a customer undressed too close to a tealight.

The woman, in her early 40s, was preparing for a massage and had left her clothes draped over a chair before climbing on to the treatment table.

Flames engulfed her blouse and designer handbag and quickly spread to a set of full-length curtains at Iridium Spa in Tettenhall Road, Newbridge, causing £4,000 worth of damage.

Owner Raeleen Hutchinson heard cries for help and rushed to the rescue with a fire extinguisher during the drama yesterday afternoon. “It was terrifying how quickly the fire spread,” she said.
