Fabregas out for Baggies clash
Wednesday 13th August 2008, 2:32PM BST.
Albion will not face Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas in their Premier League return on Saturday after the Spaniard joined the growing Gunners injury list.
The crucial midfielder has been ruled out of Saturday’s 12.45pm clash with the Baggies at the Emirates Stadium with a hamstring injury.
He is one of nine first team stars missing for Arsenal’s Champions League qualifier at FC Twente, as manager Arsene Wenger copes with a depleted squad.
But centre-back Kolo Toure and French winger Samir Nasri are both expected to return to face the Baggies, despite being sidelined by injury for tonight’s game.
Wenger could still be without as many as seven first team stars against Tony Mowbray’s side.
The Gunners manager said: “I have never known such a problematic start to a season.
“As well as Fabregas, we are without Toure, Phillipe Senderos, Nasri, Abou Diaby, Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, Alexandre Song and Amaury Bischoff.
“The trouble is, when you have to play Champions League qualifiers so early, you push players and they get injuries, which is what has happened.
“The Champions League qualifiers are our biggest games of the season. We have left a big squad at home and I am not left with many options. Basically, it is a choice of a young player or an even younger one.”
Toure is expected to recover from a hip injury to face the Baggies and Nasri’s knee injury is expected to clear up in time for the match.
Senderos was due for a scan today on his hamstring and is unlikely to figure, while Diaby and Rosicky are sidelined for at least a month.
Albion will miss summer signing Gianni Zuiverloon will be at the Olympics until Saturday at the earliest, after Holland qualified for the quarter-finals.
Zuiverloon figured as a second-half substitute as the Dutch beat Japan 1-0 to reach the last eight, where they will face Argentina on Saturday.
Zuiverloon could be back with Albion in time to face Everton on Saturday week, if Holland lose to Argentina.

I see Wenger is coming out with the excuses already – LOL !!
WOLF
Enough about your lot – what do you think of our chances?
2..And just remind me again exactly why your opinion counts on Premiership football.
As far as I am aware you have little authority on the issue. As for the “abysmal signings” you dont know much about football let alone premier league football.
stick to what you know best playing the likes of Stanley
Report abuse
You know, I juet get tired of the negative posts by some of the wolves “fans”. We don’t expect to win against the likes of Arsenal or any of the big names, however we will enjoy playing them. And it is at this point that I could mention that wolves could only draw against Plymouth, but I digress. We are back in the premier league yet again. This time I have more hope of staying up than I did the previous times. I also hope that more midland sides, like wolves, could get into the premier league, but I don’t hold my breath on that one.

Has there ever been an albion article that a dingle has failed to comment on!? shouldnt you worry about failing to beat plymouth and accrington in normal time?
Why dont you go post on an article relating to a team of similar standing….such as Bilston town or gornal Athletic :-)

3. You dont need excuses for giving someone a thrashing.

WOLF said Abysmal summer signings mean long hard season. Must be talking about his own team, keep on keeping those clean sheets!!!
GOOD!!!!
Wolf,
I would be more worried about your own lot. Great 3-2 win against the mighty Accrington Stanley!!!! We may not get a result on Saturday, but at least we are there and in with a chance. Enjoy another mediocre season under Mick “put a shift in” McCarthy.
In Mowbray we trust
Report abuse
WOLF ? You Drawed To Plymouth and Acrington Stanley Took You To Extra Time. Need I Say More Dingle?
It should be one of the best times to play Arsenal. Their defence will be depleted and may have to play a full back (Sagna) at centre back. It will still be a tough match as they still have fantastic forwards.
A win isn’t out of the question, and a point is certainly realistic now.
WOLF you are a tit, go and chat in the Championship pages and leave the Premier League talk to us Baggies fans!
Arsenal still a strong side even so,hope we don,t get carried away.WE must be realistic, but still have confidence in our own abilities.
That’s my 6 nil home win bet up the swanny then.
bit of a difference playing arsenal to accrington stanley, who you could only just beat.carry on dreaming envious wlf
Report abuse
Wolf, very true, good job we`re not playing Plymouth or Accrington Stanley hey? They looked really good ,thought you did really well against them.
I wish we had Mick McCarthy in charge at the Albion, that man is a genius and you are so, so lucky to have him. In fact its fair to say you deserve each other.
Bye for now, but please keep youre words of wisdom coming.
Excuse me Mr Dingle WOLF, but I`d sooner be crying about losing to Arsenal than jumping for joy beating `Milk` – Acrington Stanley at home!!! JUST!!! Abysmal summer signings? I bet you would have loved the opportunity to have actually signed anybody of note!!!
2, Accrington Stanley! now go away and enjoy life in the fizzy pop league until you are relegated! Boing boing. You can only dream of being in our class!
My God Wolf, you lot should be wearing ‘green’ shirts this year – get over it … we’re a Premier League team and you lot are struggling against Accrington Stanley.
Their reserve team is amazing isn’t it? I’ve always liked Arsenal and am actually a bit gutted that Fabregas won’t be playing, as I thought this was a chance to test ourselves against some of the best players in the world.
I can’t wait to get down there on Saturday.
listen to wolf 2 enjoy your season with mad micks misfits
Report abuse
To be fair Mowbray must be looking at that injury list thinking ‘lets go for 3 points’ you may well be on the end of a hiding but these kids are very young and inexperienced if you go a goal up and the crowd get anxious you never know. That would be my strategy ‘all out attack’ if your going to lose better to go for it then lose 3-0 with everyone behind the ball.
2. Coming from a team that just about beat accrington aet, accrington stanley who are they exactly, Boing Boing!

WILF: do I smell pure, unadulterated envy?
Baggies to win 2-1. Brunt and Bednar. COME ON!!
Don’t be fooled by Wenger’s comments. They’ll be very strong and up for it. We have to survive the first 20 minutes most of all whilst we adjust to the intensity. If it moves, chase it and close it down until the second breath is with us. No.2, Bouncy-bouncy can be fun, YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME. (If you are ever good enough)..
Wolf – are you living in reality – you are making a statement filled with poor intent – do you really think that your Wolves would be any better equipped to face Arsenal when you struggle to beat Accrington?
Great_Barr Baggie- get real , win is not out of the question……………….

these dingles, obviously the thriller against the mighty accrington has put them on cloud coockoo
abysmal signings? yeah ok lets compare? i’d say each signing weve made would walk into your extremely average team.
enjoy mid-table yet again

Afternoon all. I see China got knocked out of the Olympic football tournament last night and today Charlton have signed a midfielder, Nicky Bailey from Southend for 750K. I have a feeling Zheng Zhi will be making his way to the Hawthorns in the next few days. On the striker front, rumours abound that another Premiership team is in for Zigic, the speculation is that its Blackburn – i think and hope it’s the mighty stripes. Burfmeister – any insights? Cheers

To be fair to the Dingles, they got the result eventually. I’m not exactly going to defend them, but they’re still in the hat for the next round.
Let’s not worry about them lot down the road though my Baggie Brothers (and Sisters), they can snipe as much as they want, we can concentrate on ensuring that we build upon our success from last season and stay in the Premier League. COME ON YOU BAGGIES!!

It’s a good time to play Arsenal. A few players sold, quite a few out injured, playing tonight. I think we’ll play well and take them by surprise but their class should still tell. Can’t wait.
27 – rich5wolves – I am being realistic. On the first day of the season anything can happen, its almost like a cup tie. Last season Cardiff and Barnsley both beat top 4 sides in the FA Cup. It doesn’t mean they are better teams, it just shows that any team can win on the day when the adrenaline is high.
Think about your comments before you try and write insignificant, innacurate rubbish!
Michael, don`t rise to it. If you show how jealous you really are they`ll only take the mickey more.
It makes me sad too that the albion are so far ahead of us but I won`t let them lot know that.

3-2 to us on saturday
Report abuse
Who cares what wolves are doing, ok, I admit it’s quite amusing to here their bitter posts, but come on you Baggie Boys it’s Arsenal on saturday, not Accrington Stanley (who are they, exactly)! A Great big game for a GREAT big club. In Mobray We Trust!
How amusing listening to comments from bitter, grotty little dingles. You come of the back of a quite frankly dismal showing against a team that still has outside toilets at their ground, and have the audacity to attempt(and fail) to criticise the winners of the championship, and a team off you play Arsenal at the weekend. Am I missing something, If your knowlage of football is so great. Bang all you heads together, comment on your OWN teams topics and see if you can come up with any answers as to why you can’t achieve the same reults as ourselves. Then come back an WE CHAT!Go Away you little pests.
Seeing the full Arsenal team would have been nice, but it will still be a hard match for us to win as they have so much class in their reserves…
Report abuse
34. nobody actually wants your club you prat.
26. he never said we would be better equipped. think about it you’ve got to play them we haven’t.
i would say see you next season but we will be passing you on our way up. all this weve got 60m we don’t need a sponsor(good job as you cant get a sponsor anyway). it will be okay being the richest club outside the prem then wont it.
Lets get one thing straight!
Our fitness and class will prevail over Albion, though it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s 0-0 at half time. The Gunners went to half time 0-0 against the Wally with the Brolly.
So the only thing that will be going Boing Boing will be the back of your Net!
Has WOLF hit a raw nerve with his ‘abysmal’ comments?

At least I have been there more times than you have been to Albion/Wolves Games in the past decade.
I’d be more concerned about bolstering your defence for the season ahead.
Sorry Mr ‘Gooner’ but having been a home season ticket holder since 1996 and only missing 6 away matches last season (unfortunately as part of my job, I have to occasionally go to Vile Park, Stan Drews or the Custard Bowl for midweek matches) I would suggest that you’re talking out of the part of your body your mother still kisses!!
I’ve have not, as yet, been to the Emirates I will admit, but unlike you, that will change this weekend.
Much love, Nedball x

You dont even know me!
Why dont you do some maths and actually count up how many games you have had in the past decade against your ‘dingle’ rivals.
Your response is just an excuse for prejudice against people from the Black Country that do not support your Team!
Gooner, just to clear things up. I have nothing against Arsenal, I think they are an excellent footballing team and a joy to watch.
However, it does grate me, when people from Walsall / Dudley / Wolverhampton / Birmingham etc decide that they are the most loyal of supporters of teams from London, Liverpool or Manchester.
I support my local team, I love my local team and have suffered heartache and sheer jubilation in my time following them. The highs are much higher when you’ve been through the lows. It would be much easier to follow Arsenal on Sky / Setanta every week, but I’d prefer to actually support my team.
I think I’m done now, please don’t take this as a personal attack at you Walsallgooner, it just gets to me.

64. Nedball. I am going to have to agree with you on that you see too many youngsters and even adults walking around in man utd, liverpool, arsenal and chelsea(only since they have come into money). its nice to see youngsters wearing their local team colours. my lads are always wearing the Wolves colours but a lot of their mates are now wearing prem team colours when they used to wear wolves colours.
as mich as i like to slag you baggie fans off you have stuck with your team through the good and the bad times and i respect you for that.i actualy would love for you to beat Arsenal on the weekend. but dont tell everyone. now that’s enough being nice let’s get back to the banter.

66 – The 1st Albion / Wolves match I went to was in 1993, as an 11 year old. Since then, I’ve missed 4 of the matches at the Custard Bowl, and was on holiday when they murdered us 4 – 2 at the Hawthorns (Bob Taylor’s goal was onside though, I still feel aggrieved by it). I make it 18 or 19 Black Country Derbies I’ve been to since September 5th 1993, but I could have counted them wrong….so whatever point you were trying to make, I hope this answers your question?
Tell me, do you go to the Arsenal matches, as I didn’t mean to offend you so much, but I obviously have done! Maybe I’ve raised some points that you feel are appropriate to your situation?
66- To be honest I think the reasons for someone supporting the Albion and being brought up in Devon would be vastly different to the majority of reasons people support the top 4 from a different area i.e. more likely family reasons than success (that’s not to say that’s always the case).
That said, if you’re a genuine Arsenal man and follow football in general, I’ve no qualms with you.
What riles me is ignorance. I live in Manchester now but was Midlands born and bred. Not a week goes by where you don’t have a chat with a Manchester United ‘fan’ about Manchester United, but they haven’t got the foggiest about the Albion…”Whose your manager again?”, “What division are you in?”, yet they consider themselves proper football supporters!!
I personally thing your missing out, when I go to the Albion, it’s my chance to be around my people, where I’m from, my roots, my family’s roots. Midlands folk have their own culture, sense of humour, way of being.
How do you feel such a sense of belonging being around 60,000 cockneys?

68 – Michael. Cheers buddy. We all love the banter, that’s why we’re on here isn’t it really?!
I can’t fault Wolves fans, Walsall fans or Baggies who stick with our teams through all the crap we have to put up with from our beloved teams.
I can handle stick from these real fans, but I’m fed up of all the glory hunters crowing about stuff they haven’t got a clue about!!
Time to get off the soap box, and instead start slinging mud again I think!! ;-)

Ive got this feeling that Tony Mowbray will play
1 up front on saturday, and that loan striker is
going to be Ishmael Miller.
Now that Arsenal have got so many players out then
I`d go with a 4-4-2 formation.
IF WE PLAY WITH 1 UP FRONT THEN WE MIGHT AS WELL
HAVE BRYAN ROBSON IN CHARGE!
I think this will be Mowbray`s starting 11
KIELY/HOEFKENS/BARNETT/MEITE/ROBINSON/
BRUNT/CECH/GREENING/KIM/MORRISON/MILLER.
And this would be mine,
CARSON/HOEFKENS/MEITE/CLEMENT/ROBINSON/
CECH/GREENING/KOREN/MORRISON/MILLER/BEDNAR.
And if Mowbray does go with 1 front man, then
its got to be Roman Bednar.
When we have our full squad available then
people will really start to see a class team,
CARSON/ZUIVERLOON/MEITE/CLEMENT/CECH/
TEIXEIRA/GREENING/KOREN/MORRISON/MILLER/BEDNAR.
