New group in schools plan battle

Monday 11th August 2008, 11:44PM BST.

uni-students.jpgParents, teachers and community groups have joined together to campaign against plans for three Cannock schools to become self-governing trusts.

Chase Against Trust Schools group has called for a halt to proposals for Kingsmead Technology College, Gorsemoor Primary School and Hazel Slade Primary School to take themselves out of the control of Staffordshire County Council.

The new group is a coalition of parents, community groups, teachers and unions.

They claim if allowed to go ahead it could allow schools to have their own admissions policy and have a major effect on pupils.

Rob Kelsall, a spokesman for the group, said: “Parents, staff and pupils across Cannock deserve to have a good school in every community.”
