Light shines on Beacon Hotel
Tuesday 5th August 2008, 10:22PM BST.
Customers and staff at a popular Black Country boozer are jumping for joy after it was named West Midlands Pub of the Year.
Sedgley’s Beacon Hotel was awarded the prestigious title by a panel of judges from the Campaign For Real Ale – CAMRA.
The traditional Victorian pub, which is based in Bilston Street, is home to the well-known Sarah Hughes Brewery and its famous Dark Ruby Mild.
It prides itself on its welcoming atmosphere and friendly service as well as the high-quality beer it offers its many drinkers. Licensee Sue Powell, who is aged 43, said that she was “over the moon” to receive the award and thanked her customers and staff for all their help.
The boozer, which is owned by John Hughes, was also awarded Pub of the Year by the Dudley and South Staffordshire branch of CAMRA.
It’s regional success now puts it in the running for the National Pub of the Year title, which will be judged later this year.

I’m amazed it got pub of the year! Maybe it’s had a refurb since I last went in? fair play though as the staff were pleasant.
