Terrified housewife Jean Moore felt her house shake “like an earthquake” as 70-year-old Brian Lowe’s van ploughed through a fence and into her front wall in Moor Street, Brierley Hill. Mr Lowe today said he believed he had suffered a blackout before the smash, which left the driver and his 11-year-old dog Josh dazed with minor cuts.

Josh, a 14-stone Newfoundland, had been travelling in the back of the white Ford van at around 4.20pm on Friday. The impact when Josh was thrown forward left a major dent in the panel behind the driver’s seat.

Mr Lowe, a self-employed mechanic who owns Lowe’s Garage in Bank Street, Brierley Hill, was back at work with loyal companion Josh at his side yesterday.

“Josh is so placid but I think it’s shaken him up as much as me,” he said.
