Thousands of people descended on Walsall to enjoy a nostalgic glimpse of classic cars from the past at a popular annual show organisers said had been the most successful ever.

The 16th annual Classic Car and Transport Show at Walsall Arboretum yesterday attracted more than 3,000 visitors who came to look at over 450 vehicles from across the country.

The earliest car on display was a 1922 Rolls Royce Cabriolet. Other legendary names included Morris, Rover, Austin, Hillman, Daimler, Ford and MGs from the 1930s.

A number of awards were handed out and a 1970 MGB Roadster won car of the show.

The Delorean Back To The Future Car from the hit film, brought by Walsall car fanatic Glen Hale, was a massive hit with young and old throughout the day.

There was also entertainment from the Piston Ring Junior Motorcycle Display Team and youngsters enjoyed a children’s castle and quadbikes plus miniature bus rides.

Organiser Geoff Price, boss of Transtar Promotions, said: “We moved the dates this year and it has proved to be a winner as we have had our biggest turnout ever.”

Why are these events advertised after the event, more people would attend if they knew they were happening.
