Brummies expect tough test

Wednesday 30th July 2008, 6:59AM BST.

brummies.jpegBirmingham manager Graham Drury is warning his riders to expect a tough test from Berwick Bandits at Perry Barr tonight (7.45pm).

The BRC Roofing Brummies are expected to be back to full strength, with the return of James Birkinshaw at reserve for the Premier League clash.

Drury is also keen to see certain team members improve their performance levels, or he may look to strengthen the side with new faces in August.

Berwick have strength in-depth, particularly at reserve where both Paul Clews and Scott Smith have bags of experience.

Drury said: “We know Paul Clews at reserve will be a serious danger for them because he likes the Birmingham track. We have seen evidence of that when he’s made guest appearances for us.”

Birkinshaw returns for Birmingham after making good progress from a liver infection in the last week. He is desperate to get back in the saddle.

He said: “I hate watching. I just want to be back racing.”

Birmingham: Lee Smart, Jack Hargreaves, Jason Lyons, Kyle Legault, Craig Watson, Jack Roberts, James Birkinshaw.

Berwick: Adrian Rymel, Tony Atkin, Michal Makovsky, Terno Aarnio, Norbert Magosi, Paul Clews, Scott Smith.
