The family of murdered Stafford woman Moira Jones fought back tears at an emotional service in her memory.

Moira’s parents travelled to Scotland from their Weston home for the service, which saw nearly 200 people pay tribute to the 40-year-old sales executive.

Hugh Jones, aged 69, and Beatrice Jones, 67, joined Moira’s brother Grant to remember their “loving, giving and thoughtful daughter” at Cathcart Old Parish Church in Glasgow.

Speaking after the service on Saturday Grant, who lives in Australia, said: “It was extremely moving – Moira was loved.” Moira’s Scottish uncles, Willie, Ron and Ed also spoke at the service and were choked with emotion as they remembered their niece.

The service came after a Slovakian man was extradited to the UK and charged with Moira’s death.

Marek Harcar, 32, was also accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice when he appeared before Glasgow Sheriff Court on July 17. He made no plea, no application was made for bail and he was remanded in custody.

Moira’s body was discovered yards from her home in Glasgow’s Queens Park on May 28. Moira, who had moved to the city from the Stafford area several years ago, had been robbed, sexually attacked and bludgeoned to death. It is thought that her killer struck after she left her flat to park her car closer to home.

Her death shocked the nation and police launched a huge hunt for her killer, questioning more than 2,000 people and taking 600 statements during their investigation.

A local service in Moira’s memory was held in June by Father Michael Doyle at St John the Baptist RC Church in Great Haywood.
