Former Wolves boss Mark McGhee believes his old side have the muscle to go up next season after watching their impressive display against his Motherwell outfit.

Wolves were dominant in the 1-1 draw and McGhee believes counterpart Mick McCarthy has got his side prepared in the right way to provide a promotion challenge.

He said: “I think they will do very well. They have the right physique, the right ideas on how they want to play and I think they can be successful.

“I always tip them to go up every year and I think they can do it.”

Tackles were flying in and McGhee believes both teams benefitted from such a competitive workout.

“We were interested to see how we looked against a Championship team and we enjoyed it.

“It was a good competitive workout for both teams. It was played in a good spirit with chances at both ends.

“I thought that both teams forced each other to work hard which is what you want.

“Both teams came out of it without any injuries, which is really important.”
