Braddock: Lichfield are not safe
Thursday 24th July 2008, 6:27AM BST.
Lichfield captain Adam Braddock admits his side are still not safe from relegation – but he says they should escape trouble.
Braddock’s side are just a few points above the drop zone, but the skipper says he is confident ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bridgnorth.
He said: “We’re only a few points clear and with four teams going down you’re always looking over your shoulder.
“But if we play the kind of cricket we’re capable of, we shouldn’t have a problem.”
Leaders Wombourne insist they are taking nothing for granted as they prepare to strengthen their promotion challenge against Fordhouses on Saturday.
Liam Hughes’s young side have opened up a sizeable gap at the top of the table and look increasingly likely to continue their climb through the divisions.
But the skipper insists they are not yet thinking about being on the brink of promotion.
He said: “We intend to play every game now as hard as we have before.”
Hughes will have Karl and Dale Quiney back from holiday while Matt Branch is back from injury. Calvin Priest and Ben Shorter are unavailable.
Fordhouses captain Russell Thompson is calling for more of the same, as his side look to climb out of the third division drop zone.
Thompson’s men will begin Saturday’s clash with Wombourne three points behind the safety line but boosted by a 67-run win over Whitchurch last week.
He said: “All three of my main bowlers, Kash Hussain, Sohail Rai and Jattan Kohli, took three wickets last week. Scott Richards, who’s only 16, scored 43.
“We’re in the bottom four but it’s very tight and we know if we play some more good cricket we can stay up.”
