Manager Mick McCarthy’s insistence on Wolves being an attacking side – with emphasis on passing and crossing – is backed up by statistics from match analysts ProZone.

Last season, the team passed the ball 301 times per game on average and 77 per cent of these were successfully completed. These were the second best passing stats in the Championship.

Wolves averaged 14 shots at goal per game and 20 crosses into the box per game, the highest average in the division.

The team kept 19 clean sheets – the highest in the league – and had the fourth best defensive record in the league overall. Wolves also covered 114.58 km per game on average as a whole.

Wolves match analyst James Lovell said: “That sort of information is really useful and the manager said at the end of the season how the main difference was just being able to put the ball in the back of the net.”
