Around 350 are going on sale to the general public this week after employees were given the chance to snap up a piece of industrial history. The rest will be used as hardcore in the foundations of the new development.

The bricks are priced at £2 for blue, £5 for yellow and £10 for a brick featuring both colours. A crowd of more than 1,000 turned out to witness the demolition of the stack last month with many hoping for the chance to buy a souvenir of the familiar 150ft tower.

Goodyear spokesman James Bailey said the company came to a deal with the developers St Modwen’s who officially own the bricks.

Anyone wishing to buy one of the bricks should contact the Goodyear gatehouse on 01902 327255.

The money raised from the sale will go to Macmillan Nurses, which provides specialist care for cancer patients.
