Thieves have stolen a collection box full of cash donated in aid of marathon hero Blind Dave’s charity campaign.

The West Bromwich-born runner has branded those responsible “low lives,” after learning of the theft from Lyng Lane Pharmacy in West Bromwich. 

Dave Heeley, of Oak Road, went into the pharmacy with his wife Debbie to collect the money but was told by distraught shop bosses that the box had been pinched from the counter. 

Full of money donated over the past few months by generous customers at the West Bromwich pharmacy, in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind, it is thought to have contained more than £100. Blind Dave, aged 50, has been raising money across the globe for the charity, with his campaign reaching its peak when he and sighted guide Malcolm Carr completed the record-breaking challenge of seven marathons in seven days across seven continents in April. 

“I’m not going to say it was kids but someone in the area might know who has done it,” said Dave. “There are some low lives out there. 

“It’s not necessarily the amount of money that matters, it is just hard to accept that somebody would do that.”
