But now Alison Fletcher, aged 24, has fulfilled her ambition of taking part in the Race for Life – and bought slimline new clothes. Alison, from Shackleton Drive, Perton, started piling on the pounds when she found love two years ago.

She said: “There was a lot of socialising and in a restaurant I always chose from the dessert menu first – ice cream and chocolate cake were my favourites.”

But her former diet of crisps, cake and other snacks has gone and instead of steak and chips followed by pudding at a restaurant, she goes for fish with salads.

Alison slimmed down to 10 stone on the Cambridge Diet after becoming inspired by Rose Woodward, from Featherstone, who lost 14 stone in 12 months.
