Wolves hoping rain leaves off

Friday 11th July 2008, 8:18AM BST.

wolverhamptonwolves.JPGWolves will be desperate for a break in the weather as they take on Lakeside in the Elite League.

The side have already seen their home clash with the Hammers, plus their match at Peterborough, fall victim to persistent heavy rain.

Promoter Chris Van Straaten knows that a number of his team are getting restless.

He said: “Our three Danish riders (Niels Kristian Iversen, Nicolai Klindt and Kenneth Hansen) have spent a week in England but with no racing.”

“With the World Cup being staged next week, there will be no league action then either, so they’re really hoping the Lakeside match goes ahead.”

Wolves legends Peter Karlsson and Mikael Maxhad have been approached for possible team places over the second half of the season but have turned down the opportunity, because of continental commitments.

Van Straaten explained: “If a rider contracted to Wolves chose to race abroad instead of a clashing Wolves fixture, the side wouldn’t be able to use a guest and would have to bring in a junior rider.

“The club and the rider would be fined and there would also the possibility of the rider being suspended.”

The club will still be without Christian Hefenbrock tonight as he recovers from hand injuries sustained in a crash in Italy last weekend.

Tapes go up at the Purfleet Raceway at 8pm.

Hammers: Andreas Jonsson, Leigh Lanham, Adam Shields, Joonas Kylmakorpi, Jonas Davidsson, Ricky Kling, Lubos Tomicek.

Wolves: Freddie Lindgren, Ales Dryml, Niels Kristian Iversen, Christian Hefenbrock R/R, David Howe, Kenneth Hansen, Nicolai Klindt.
