county-air-ambulance-2.jpgThe community has rallied round to keep the County Air Ambulance in flight after the charity announced increasing fuel charges would cost the service an additional £130,000 every year.

The Cannock Chase Hospital League of Friends has already donated £50,000 to the County Air Ambulance to help meet the extra cost.

Members of the public and businesses in the area have also been quick to rally support for the popular Midlands charity.

Spokesman Steve Parry explained: “The fuel issue represents a serious problem for the charity.

“Thankfully the generosity shown by the public and local businesses at this time is very encouraging.”

Mr Parry said the County Air Ambulance still faces a challenging period ahead to raise the £5.6 million needed to keep the helicopter fleet flying across the region, and that is was crucial to keep the momentum up.

With no funding from the Government or the Lottery, the County Air Ambulance is solely reliant on public donations and corporate sponsorship to raise the funds required to run the vital emergency service.

I think its an absolute disgrace that the government does not fund such a wonderful service as the Air Ambulance. My aunt was involved in a accident in Walsall and the air ambulance attended although very sadly she died from her injurys with out the air ambulance she who never have even stood a chance.

Why cant the National lottery even donate money instead of some of the ridiculous charitys that chooses!
