Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Mowbray vow on signings
Sunday 6th July 2008, 9:55AM BST.
Albion boss Tony Mowbray has warned agents he is not interested in “grabbing anything that comes along” as the Premiership kick off moves into range.
Mowbray is adamant he and chairman Jeremy Peace will not be shaken from their path of building for the future as well as the present.
The Albion gaffer caught the football world napping when he sneaked in Gianni Zuiverloon under the radar from Dutch club Herenveen this week.
Zuiverloon joined his new team mates for training yesterday and is just the first of several acquisitions Mowbray is hoping to surprise us with.
But the over-riding consideration will be getting in the right players at the right price amid the inevitable panic to fill-up the squad for the Premier League battle looming.
“Let’s not panic about it,” Mowbray urges the Albion fans. “Things are starting to warm up a little bit now, people are starting to buy players and deals are beginning to get done. It already feels like we have been back a month. I’m not sure how long it is since we have been trying to do this (transfers) as such, but you begin from the ridiculous point where you first ask about a player and everyone is £10m or £15m.
“We are now at a time where the prices start to come back to you a little bit as they realise you might be one of only a couple in the hunt. People are starting to become a little more realistic about prices, so hopefully things will speed up a little bit.
“We try and do our business properly. The chairman is very thorough.
“We are trying to build a football club and you don’t do that by grabbing anything that comes along.
“You want quality and if you have to wait for it – and if it is not quite there and you are stuck with a few quid, you wait for them to become available and then you have to go and get them.”
