Mulgrew close to Swindon switch
Friday 4th July 2008, 10:33AM BST.
Swindon have upped their bid for Wolves left-back Charlie Mulgrew and are close to agreeing a fee.
Wolves rejected the Robins’ initial bid for Mulgrew, believed to be in the region of £125,000.
Now Wolves are reported to have dropped their asking price, so a new offer looks set to be accepted.
Swindon boss Maurice Malpas, who managed Mulgrew when he was in charge of Scotland under-21s, is hopeful the two clubs will agree the price today.
Then they are free to discuss personal terms with Mulgrew.
The former Celtic defender has slipped to fourth choice left-back at Molineux behind George Elokobi, Michael Gray and Daniel Jones.
After making just six appearances for Wolves in a season and a half, he spent the final three months of 2006-07 on loan at Southend, who have also been very keen to land him.
