Walsall star Darren WrackFormer Walsall player Darren Wrack has finally found a club – signing for Blue Square Premier newcomers Kettering Town.

Wrack, who was released by Saddlers at the end of the last season, will now be playing for Mark Cooper’s side, who won promotion last season.

The midfielder was signed by Walsall manager Ray Graydon from Grimsby in July 1998. He played 281 games for the Saddlers scoring 44 goals.

He was instrumental in Walsall’s golden age at the end of the 20th Century and the start of the 21st.

These included two promotions from the then Second Division and three seasons in the then First Division.

Wrack, who became a firm favourite with the fans, was sidelined with a fracture of the leg caused by a challenge from Colin Miles of Yeovil Town in September 2005.

He made his comeback 12 months later. After he was awarded a testimonial for the 2007/8 season, it was exclusively revealed in the Express & Star that throughout his football career, which started at Derby, he had had a severe gambling addiction.

He has made a new start, after been receiving treatment at the same clinic where Paul Gascoigne had been helped for his addictions. Gascoigne was also briefly boss at Kettering.

Well done Wracky, all the best to you! I can still remember him weaving through the Sheff Utd midfield at Bramall Lane and unleashing a super strike to get us back to 1-1 Great Goal!

Good luck to Wracky – I would have kept him at Walsall for another season.
